The Zurich Film Festival (ZFF) has announced that Hildur Guðnadóttir, the Oscar-winning Icelandic composer, will receive the Career Achievement Award at this year’s Cinema in Concert gala on October 2, 2025.
Known for her emotionally resonant and atmospheric scores, Guðnadóttir has become one of the most influential voices in contemporary film music. Her acclaimed work includes the haunting soundtracks for JOKER, CHERNOBYL, TÁR, and A Haunting in Venice. With an Academy Award, Emmy, Golden Globe, two Grammys, and a BAFTA under her belt, she continues to push the boundaries of sound in cinema.
In addition to receiving the award, Guðnadóttir will serve as jury president of the 13th International Film Music Competition, where young composers from around the world will compete for the coveted Golden Eye for Best International Film Music.
“I’m really looking forward to coming to Zurich to listen to the magnificent Tonhalle Orchestra Zurich—and, of course, to experience some of the amazing films and music at your festival,” Guðnadóttir shared in a statement.
With her bold and experimental approach to scoring, Hildur Guðnadóttir not only redefines how we experience film but also inspires a new generation of musical storytellers.
