The 82nd Venice International Film Festival (August 27 – September 6, 2025) has officially revealed the selection for this year’s Orizzonti Short Films International Competition, presented by La Biennale di Venezia and directed by Alberto Barbera.

This year's line-up features 14 short films in competition and 1 out of competition, all set to have their world premieres. Spanning 19 countries, the selection highlights bold voices and fresh visions from around the globe — from animation and experimental formats to deeply human stories grounded in cultural identity and change.

Notable entries include:

  • “The Curfew” by Shehrezad Maher (USA)

  • “Merrimundi” by Niles Atallah (Chile, animation)

  • “Saint Simeon” by Olubunmi Ogunsola (Nigeria)

  • “Je Crois Entendre Encore” by Constance Bonnot (France)

  • “Coyotes” by Said Zagha (France, Jordan, UK)

The only short screening out of competition is “RUKELI”, an animated piece by Alessandro Rak (Italy, Sweden).

With its reputation for championing daring new cinema, the Orizzonti section promises another year of striking visuals and global storytelling — all within a tightly curated short film format.
