Highlighting the healing connection between creative expression and mental well-being, the International Museum of Art in El Paso, Texas, has launched the second annual iteration of "The Weight We Carry: A First Responder Art Exhibit."
Organized in partnership with Stress Relief Through Arts (SRTA), the exhibit brings together original artwork created by first responders and their families. Staged inside the historic Turney Mansion, the showcase offers an intimate look into the creativity, personal reflections, and lived experiences of emergency personnel beyond the uniform.
Creative Reflection & Community Impact
Running from September 12 through October 4, 2026, the exhibition focuses on visual storytelling and community wellness as tools for processing frontline stress:
Beyond the Uniform: Featuring mixed media, paintings, and personal photography crafted by active and retired first responders and their immediate family members.
Creative Wellness via SRTA: Developed by Stress Relief Through Arts, the program uses hands-on creative practices to foster stress relief, internal reflection, and interpersonal connection.
Opening Reception: The museum will host a formal public reception celebrating the featured artists on Saturday, September 19, 2026, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM.
