Neal McDonough Shares First On-Screen Kiss with Real-Life Wife in 'The Last Rodeo'

Neal McDonough, known for his firm stance against on-screen intimacy, made a rare exception for his new film The Last Rodeo—but only because the scene involved his real-life wife, Ruvé Robertson.

Throughout his career, McDonough has famously upheld a personal no-kissing policy out of respect for his marriage and faith, even turning down roles that required romantic scenes. However, in The Last Rodeo, a film he co-wrote and stars in, he agreed to break that rule for a deeply personal and symbolic moment.

The film follows Joe Wainright, a retired Texas bull rider who reenters the rodeo to help his sick grandson. When a scene called for a kiss, McDonough suggested casting his wife so the moment could stay authentic without compromising his values. The heartfelt kiss marks the first time he’s kissed anyone on screen—apart from his wife.

Despite the romantic gesture, the moment wasn’t without humor. Their daughter, who was on set, reportedly found the kiss “gross” and jokingly asked them to stop.

The Last Rodeo is set to release in theaters on May 23, delivering a story of love, legacy, and unwavering personal conviction.
