Imagined Futures: MoMA Teens Reimagine Tomorrow

The Museum of Modern Art opens its doors to the voices of tomorrow with Imagined Futures, a dynamic exhibition curated by participants in the MoMA Teens in Residence program. Hosted at the Lewis B. and Dorothy Cullman Education and Research Building, this special presentation brings together the creative visions of high school–aged artists from across New York City. More than an exhibition, it is a reflection of youth perspectives on possibility, uncertainty, identity, and hope.
The exhibition began with a powerful question: What kind of futures do you imagine? In response, over 200 young artists submitted works expressing their dreams and concerns for the world ahead. Their pieces explore themes shaped by culture, community, heritage, and personal experience—offering deeply individual yet collectively resonant visions of tomorrow.
Curated entirely by the MoMA Teens in Residence cohort, Imagined Futures represents months of thoughtful collaboration and behind-the-scenes museum work. Participants engaged directly with the inner workings of a major art institution—selecting artworks, defining thematic frameworks, organizing the exhibition layout, and producing interpretive materials such as wall texts and audio guides. The result is an exhibition that is not only about youth voices, but shaped by them at every level.
Walking through the galleries, visitors encounter bold visual storytelling that challenges assumptions and invites dialogue. From intimate reflections on identity to expansive imaginings of global transformation, the artworks push viewers to consider both present realities and shared possibilities. The exhibition encourages audiences to see the world through the eyes of a generation poised to shape its future.
The opening reception will take place on March 7, 2026, from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m., offering guests the opportunity to celebrate alongside the teen curators and artists. Registration is required to attend the event. Following the reception, the exhibition will remain on view through April 26, 2026, during regular museum hours.
Imagined Futures stands as a testament to the power of young creativity and institutional collaboration. By centering youth voices within a world-renowned museum setting, MoMA affirms that the future of art—and the world itself—is already being imagined today
